Reading a Kundli
A disciplined reading sequence
A reliable reading starts by confirming the astronomical inputs: date, exact time, birthplace, timezone and ayanamsha. Interpretation cannot repair an incorrect chart.
Begin with Lagna because it fixes the house structure. Examine the Lagna sign, Lagna lord and the lord's placement, dignity and influences.
Then locate Moon and Sun. Moon is important for mental and experiential orientation; Sun contributes vitality, identity and authority themes.
Move house by house only after identifying lordships. For each important life area, examine the house, its lord, occupants, aspects and natural significators.
North Indian charts keep houses fixed while sign numbers change. South Indian charts keep signs fixed. The planetary positions are the same; only the visual grammar changes.
Look for repetition. When house, lord, Karaka and relevant Varga tell a similar story, the theme deserves more weight than a single isolated placement.
After D1, use relevant Vargas to refine a question and Dashas to determine activation. Transits are best treated as timing triggers rather than substitutes for natal promise.
